Beginning to Edit

Image
For this project, I am doing most of the editing. Since Sophia is more artistically talented, she and I both agreed that I would stick to the technological aspects. To begin, I compiled the clips that I had into my iMovie application on my computer. Since my partner and I filmed quite randomly, I had to put these in the right order. Next was choosing the clips to use. Sophia and I met up and watched each of the clips until the best one was found. I did this with her for each scene. One each clip had been chosen and saved, I went to iMovie and deleted all of the other clips. For me, this is the easiest part of filming. It is also the most satisfactory, to have only my raw footage to work with and nothing extra. After this I had to watch what I had so far. With the raw footage, I had over 9 minutes of film. It was quite a challenge for me to know what to keep and what to cut. After snipping the unnecessary beginnings and ending of clips and the spare seconds I had about 3 minutes. The n

Filming at the Galleria Mall

Image
The second part of my filming proved itself to be very difficult. First, the filming was supposed to be over the weekend, at an abandoned building near the beach. This, however, did not go as planned. I found out a few days before filming that the building I wanted to use had been demolished, so I could no longer film there. I also lost some actors the day before because they had plans of their own. Since my partner and I filmed over spring break, some of the actors were on vacation or had to do their own filming. Hence, I had to initiate the backup plans. First, instead of filming at the abandoned building which was no longer available, my partner and I decided to film at the Galleria Mall. This was perfect as I knew a certain spot that would be very good for the theme. It was a secluded set of hallways with wiring and old office doors. I called the mall ahead of time to make sure filming was allowed there and they granted the permission. My partner also suggested that the filming sho

Filming at the University of Miami

Image
After a few days of communication, my partner and I decided on filming at University of Miami on Wednesday.  I was not able to get permission from Sunrise Middle School. I also decided against filming at Northeast High School, as they also offer the Cambridge program and I wanted to be careful about not filming in my school or other Cambridge schools. Since Sophia's brother goes to University of Miami, she decided on filming there. I also wanted to film somewhere with an aesthetically pleasing background. She asked her brother to get permission to film on campus. They granted this with the promise that she and I would not make any disturbances. Sophia and I went straight after school on Wednesday. The drive was about an hour, maybe a bit more. I used this time to go over lines and camera angles. Upon arrival, me and Sophia met with her brother. Along with her family, Sophia and I took a scenic walk across the campus, and grabbed some lunch. This was difficult, as it was spring brea

Production Blog: Props and Makeup

Image
As the filming day nears, I need to take preparatory actions. The next step is to get the props and makeup  I will film with. These props include fake blood, special effects makeup, a fake gun, a phone, a car, and a few costumes as well. For the fake blood, I will use this for the scene in which I find the dead bodies and when Sophia gets shot. Neither sophia nor I have any sort of fake blood. This meant that I had to take a trip to Ulta Beauty. With my partner alongside, I was successfully able to find some fake blood at Ulta. The next prop that was needed was a fake gun. At first, my partner suggested that I get a realistic looking fake gun. Both she and I agreed upon this. After a while, I realized that this would not be a great idea, and she agreed with me. I thought that someone may see the filming in public, and think that I may actually be causing harm to Sophia. I did not want this to happen. She and I then agreed upon using a gun that was very obviously fake. Sophia first sug

Production Blog: Music

Image
The next part of my project was choosing music to go with my film. I knew this part would require some research. I looked on the sites such as YouTube and Google, as I believe they are the best choice in finding good quality music. To begin I wanted to use a popular song for the film, as it may catch more peoples attention. In trying to obtain popular copyright music for my film, I realized it would be very difficult to do so. You must send the music artist’s production company a letter through email, which would take up my time in theirs. As busy as I’m sure they are, it would take a while for them to get back to me. If they were not busy enough, they may have other students emails to reply to as well. This was too risky for me. As I did not find this to be the safest option, I decided against using copyright music. My only other option was royalty-free music. My partner and I did extensive research on a royalty free music, primarily on YouTube. At first my partner had thought that t

Production Blog: Recruitment of Actors

Image
Before my partner and I began filming,  I needed to find actors to participate in the film. My partner and I asked a few friends if they would be available on the days that had been planned to film certain scenes. The scheduled filming days were the 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th of March. The day in which the scenes most needed to have extra actors was the day that I was filming in the abandoned building. I needed actors to play the dead bodies that I would find. I had originally asked my friends Kayla and Ashley. They were mutual friends of me and my partner, Sophia. After establishing a villain, my partner and I decided that my friend Elena should play the villain. The role was very fitting to her style and a particular outfit I had seen her wear before. She is also a mutual friend of my partner and I. Later on, Kayla let me know that she could no longer film over the weekend of the 12th and 13th. Therefore, Sophia and I tried to move around the filming days. As I have mentioned in earl

Storyboard Blog

Page 1: On this page, we are doing two scenes. The first scene is the one in which Sophia is running and is shot. This is the attention grabber, which we then rewind into the next scene. In this scene, we are at the University of Miami. There is an establishing shot and then we will film in the hallway, where the students are being released from class.   Page 2: on this page, we have to more scenes. The first is the continuation of the last page.  We will film a medium shot of us walking down the campus as we talk and check our phones. This is when we find out that our friends are missing. The next scene will be us in the car, then talking about how scared we are. We will then leave the car and walk to the building.   Page 3: The next page is one scene, a continuation of the last page. We will now enter the building. There will be a close-up of us opening the door, and then a long shot as we walk in and look around. Aja then finds a door and calls Sophia over. Once they are together
